Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the most common questions we receive from patients. If you don’t see your question listed, please contact the office. We are here for you, and happy to answer any of your questions or concerns.

How often should I visit the dentist?

In most cases, we recommend that you visit the dentist at least twice a year for a professional cleaning and oral exam. However, if you are in pain, chipped or broke a tooth, or notice anything unusual with your teeth, gums, or mouth, please schedule an appointment immediately. Dental problems can be more straightforward and less expensive to repair when treated as early as possible.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

If you haven’t submitted your New Patient paperwork before your first appointment, please bring it with you. If possible, forward recent x-rays from your previous dental office. Please bring an accurate record of your current medications so we can add it to your file. Also, bring a list of any questions and concerns you have about your dental health.

What is a Solea laser?

Our office features a Solea laser, which is an advanced piece of technology used to treat many oral health conditions on hard and soft tissue. The laser allows for virtually silent and anesthesia-free dental procedures. We recommend Solea to anyone interested in a shorter, more comfortable dental procedure with a faster recovery time.

Is there anything I can do to make my teeth whiter?

We offer several teeth whitening treatment options in our office. One of the most popular is the ZOOM! Teeth Whitening System. Our patients enjoy safe, fast, and effective results with this system. When you’re in the office, we will demonstrate it works, and we will show you examples of results from actual patients of our practice.

At what age should children start seeing the dentist?

We recommend that most children start seeing a dentist by the age of one, or by the time their first tooth erupts. There are many benefits to seeing a dentist on a regular schedule from a very young age. Not only does it help children get used to visiting the dentist, but it also helps set children on the right path towards a lifetime of excellent oral health. We see children of all ages in our office, and we welcome you to schedule an appointment!

Are silver fillings safe?

We believe that silver fillings are safe, but we typically recommend tooth-colored filling to our patients. Tooth-colored fillings are composed of a composite material that is strong and long-lasting. Tooth-colored fillings are aesthetically pleasing and designed to match the color of your natural tooth.

How long can I put off needed dental work?

It is never advisable to put off necessary dental work. Even if a chip in your tooth does not hurt, it should be repaired as soon as possible. Unfortunately, a chipped, broken, fractured, or decayed tooth cannot (and will not) fix itself. A compromised tooth is weak and susceptible to further damage. Also, it’s typically less expensive to undergo needed dental work when the problem is in its earliest stage.

Do I really have to replace missing teeth?

There are many good reasons to replace a missing tooth. First, a missing tooth can be unattractive – even if it’s one of your back molars. Second, a missing tooth can affect your ability to eat properly, smile, and pronounce words. Finally, a missing tooth can lead to bone loss in your jaw and can result in your other teeth shifting out of their proper position. If you have a missing tooth, please schedule an appointment.
